Air Products White Paper - Air separation control technology

نویسنده

  • David R. Vinson
چکیده

Achieving high performance process control (HPPC) requires that the control system operate the plant at optimal efficiency over the full range of teady state and dynamic conditions. Air separation processes present particular challenges because of their energy intensive nature and demanding roduction schedules. The HPPC challenges for both cryogenic and adsorption processes are presented, recent applicable research is summarized, nd directions for future research are proposed. The value of the operability index to improved HPPC is also presented and discussed. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Simulation and Formula Regression of an Air Separation Unit in China Steel Corporation

Air separation Units (ASU) is widely used in many industries. ASU is difficult to operate due to high degree of energy integration. In this paper, steady-state and dynamics simulation of one of China Steel Corporation’s air separation unit have been studied. The goal is to figure out the formula among gaseous product demands and set points values of the control loops in this unit, and to build ...

Effects of Intensity Variations in Uv Air Treatment Systems

Ultraviolet (UV) energy has been used to kill microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses in air since the early 1900s. If sufficiently high doses of UV are used, the technology can very effectively sterilize air. Low UV doses and lack of uniformity of the UV radiation can, however, significantly reduce the germicidal effects of UV. This White Paper describes a new Advanced UV System (AUVS) tec...

Compartmental modeling of high purity air separation columns

High purity distillation columns are critical unit operations in cryogenic air separation plants. The development of nonlinear control technology is motivated by the need to frequently change production rates in response to time varying utility costs. Detailed column models based on stage-by-stage balance equations are too complex to be incorporated directly into optimization-based strategies s...

Nonlinear Reduced-Order Modeling of Double Column Air Separation Plants

Cryogenic air separation plants produce purified oxygen, nitrogen and argon for the steel, chemical, food processing, semiconductor and health care industries. Cryogenic temperatures (–170 to –190 ◦C) are achieved via turbine expansion. Electricity required to power gas turbines represents the largest operational cost in air separation plants. Continued deregulation of the electric utility indu...
